Mallorca, you absolute gem. Just under three hours from the UK, this Balearic beauty has long been one of my favourite escapes. Boasting turquoise waters, golden sands, and winding mountain roads, it’s the kind of place where relaxation meets adventure. In July, my boyfriend Tom swept me away to the gorgeous Monnaber Vell, tucked away in the island’s tranquil countryside, and I’ve been daydreaming about it ever since.
Monnaber Vell: Serenity in the Heart of Mallorca
Set at the foot of the Tramuntana Mountains, Monnaber Vell is a boutique hotel that feels like stepping into another world. This 13th-century finca has been beautifully restored, blending rustic charm with modern luxury. Surrounded by almond and olive groves, it’s the perfect spot to forget the world and embrace total serenity.
The rooms? Spacious, ridiculously comfortable, and infused with understated elegance. Ours featured stone walls, high-beamed ceilings, and a view so dreamy I had to pinch myself to make sure that I wasn't dreaming. Mornings were spent lounging on the terrace with coffee in hand, soaking up the morning mountain air listening nothing more but the distance sounds of Shepards their flocks.
And the food—where do I even begin? From the hearty breakfasts (with lots to choose from at the buffet), like the freshly cooked omelette and dulce Dulce de leche filled pancakes, to fresh and tasty lunches, like the tuna toast, which turned into a daily addiction, then there was the exquisite dinners. Whether it was the freshest seafood or the sumptuous goats cheese and pineapple salad, every bite felt like a love letter to Mallorca. Pair that with the most unreal service—friendly, attentive, and genuinely warm—and you’ve got a stay that’s nothing short of perfection.
Exploring Mallorca: Pollenca and Valldemossa
One of the best things about Monnaber Vell is its proximity to some of Mallorca’s most charming towns. Pollenca, just a short drive away, is a postcard-perfect spot with cobbled streets, quaint cafes, and a lively Sunday market. Climbing the 365 Calvari Steps rewarded us with sweeping views of the town and beyond—a must-do if you visit.
We also ventured to Valldemossa, a dreamy little village nestled in the mountains. Its stone houses and narrow streets are impossibly romantic, and it’s home to our favourite tapas spot: Es Roquissar. Tucked away in the square, this gem serves the most delectable small plates. Think crispy croquettes, unbelievable truffle mash (which we've had every time we visit), and a blueberry tiramisu which I’d happily eat every day for the rest of my life.
Why You Should Visit Monnaber Vell
Monnaber Vell isn’t just a place to stay—it’s an experience. Whether you’re lounging by the pool, exploring nearby towns, or simply basking in the tranquillity of the mountains, it’s a retreat that nourishes the soul. It’s luxurious without pretension, peaceful without isolation, and absolutely bursting with character.
Mallorca has a special way of capturing hearts, and this trip was no exception. Between the incredible service at Monnaber Vell, the unforgettable food, and the beauty of places like Pollenca and Valldemossa, it was the perfect birthday getaway. If you’re dreaming of a slice of Mediterranean paradise, this is your sign to pack your bags.
